JOIN The PORTFOLIO

Ready to catapult your farm into the media world and start making a really good go at becoming a film location?

Then you need to join …..

The FOLD

This is where you stay in the comfort of our care. The Fold is our curated, closely nurtured collection of up to 250 locations, all listed on the website.

We look after you end to end: promoting you and managing enquiries, facilitating hires and doing the admin, leaving you to focus on the hosting.  You know the detail is done, and you then have the fun!

The collection of locations is kept purposefully small, so the personal service stays true .

We are currently on the hunt for new locations, searching for those that can add a new dimension to the portfolio and fill any gaps that are missing.

IF YOU ARE

A CUSTODIAN OF A SPECIAL RURAL PLACE

That’s a FARM, ESTATE or COUNTRYSIDE SPOT

Register your interest with us. We ask for a few photos and facts to give us an early taste for your location. If we love the taster, we then arrange a discovery call with you to share more. A decision will then be made on joining the FOLD.

REGISTER YOUR LOCATION

To register an interest in listing with us, please take a minute to complete the form below.

Please be assured, completion of this form and /or submission of images at this stage, does not form a formal registration with Farm Locations and the information will not be used outside of Farm Locations’ use without your permission. Meet the Founder

Jo Thompson set up Farm Locations 9 years ago. It is the only agency in the UK to specialise in farms and rural spaces for filming and photoshoots.

Jo started out hosting shoots on her own family farm (including clients Ted Baker, EE and Jeremy Clarkson for The Grand Tour) and since then has supported hundreds of farmers and landowners in their diversification ambitions.

Also a farmer’s daughter and wife, Jo’s marketing career has included managing multi-million pound media budgets for Sugar Puffs and Eurostar, and latterly leading brand launches for start-up holiday letting businesses. Her strong roots in farming, media and property hire have set the groundwork to fuel her determination in championing Britain’s farms in the film industry.

Jo, Carolyn and Gemma are your team behind the scenes and they are here to be your friendly face and helping hand in a whole new industry that’s far removed from the familiar welly-wearing one.

On The Fence?

Come off it. There’s no obligation after all.

Register your interest and at least we can share how successful we think you can be.

And if you do join the Fold, there’s never an obligation to take on a hire. It’s for you to decide as each enquiry comes through. You are in control all along the way!

The cost of investment is next to nothing.

BECOMING A FILM LOCATION IS THE LOWEST COST,  HIGHEST MARGIN DIVERSIFICATION ROUTE FOR YOUR FARM.

You never know, Ed Sheeran might be singing in your barn soon.

Worth a chance on that?

Where do I start?

Do you know if your location is good enough, and if it is, how to go about getting noticed, and getting the bookings in.

And then how will you know if the crew will respect your farm? Mucky yards and white trainers do not match well!

You might well be thinking all sorts of trouble could unfold. That’s why you don’t do it alone. Find an ally in the industry, learn from them, let them take the load off you. Then be free to enjoy it.

“We can’t afford to take any more risks. We need something that won’t add pressure on us”

Here’s a diversification that costs next to nothing. And it can lift the mood enormously. Give it a go!

INVEST Next to NOTHING

Unlike any other form of diversification, becoming a farm location is very affordable.

We ask you not to change a thing.  We love raw beauty, the un-modernised, the cobwebs and the character. For the clients who come to us with their briefs,  it’s more likely the wild and unkempt that is called for, versus the manicured and smart.

Our absolute joy is that we are giving landowners the opportunity to be successful in an alternative form of diversification to those that ask for their farm to be updated, modernised, changed. We love helping our owners preserve what’s there already and to conserve those dwindling gems of old rural England.

We ask for a small set-up fee for getting your location up and running. There’s then an annual listing fee to keep the location updated and communication channels open. It’s small fry compared to what the potential might hold.

EARN (potentially) LOTS ….

So how much can I earn?

Let’s be honest. It can be feast or famine, and one year can be very different to another year. It’s a hard one to predict, but if you are in a brilliantly convenient  spot with a whole lot that’s appealing, then let’s help you make it a feast all year long!

Our landowners have earned anything from £0 to over £100,000 in a year.

Our hires can earn anything from £300 to £8000 a day.

If you are not in it, you are not going to win it!

MEET OUR OWNERS

A huge thank you to Farm Locations, Jo and her team who were instrumental in obtaining the contract and for overseeing all the finer details for us so we could enjoy every minute.

We cannot speak too highly of Farm Locations – nothing is too much trouble and their understanding of what farms across the country have to offer to the industry is second to none. We really feel Farm Locations has put us on the map and we look forward to working with them again in the future.

Josie, first time host of a Universal Pictures feature film, released in cinemas September 2024

“Farm locations has just been brilliant in every way since we signed up 2 years ago. Jo visited our farm personally (which is rare for an agency) and has really got to know and understand what we can offer and advised us throughout the shoot process. Through Farm locations’ personal touch and direction we have hosted 28 shoots to date (far more than any other agency) including fashion shoots, music videos, film and TV – it’s enabled us to diversify effectively and make some money whilst enjoying it too!”

Frequently Asked Questions about The Fold

What are my chances of being hand-picked for The FOLD?

If you are in a good location, have some special unspoilt backdrops, can take a good photo, are super keen and down to earth, you have every chance of success! There’s no cost in applying so give it a go. We’d love to hear from anyone who believes they have something special to offer.

What’s the deal?

There’s a small set up fee and also a small annual listing fee. These charges help towards the running costs and allow us to continue in our ambition to help more landowners and clients, and not just narrow right down to the farms closest to London or the clients with the biggest budgets.

We also charge a commission on every hire. We take care of everything for you. We aren’t just a referrer, or pass on the Client’s contract for the landowner to hire. WE pay attention across all steps of the process, representing our owners throughout.

Do I have to have a farm?

No, any rural green space can qualify.

Do I have to be exclusive?

We don’t push you into an exclusive arrangement with us. Instead, and perhaps more fool us for not tying you in, we do though pride ourselves in knowing that many of our landowners choose to not go elsewhere once they have landed with us.

What type of shoots might we get through you?

Your location might be more attractive to small stills shoots or perhaps its the epic landscape that will lean towards feature films. We arrange shoots for music promos, tv commercials, feature films, short films, also pre-wedding shoots, student productions, and TV dramas, shows, comedies. It’s endless what a farm location can offer.

How do I cancel?

The term is for minimum 1 year. We will sign an agency agreement and it is a rolling annual contract, with a notice period of one month before the next annual listing payment is due.

Another Egg for the Basket?

Let us hatch it for you!

You are a busy person. You might be farming, you might not. Either way you have plenty to juggle already, and that’s without the new array of diversification opportunities that’s causing the head to spin. You can’t do everything!

Becoming a successful farm location takes time if doing it alone. It’s not a quick answer to earning an easy fortune. You need to be patient, open minded and ready for the next call, whenever that might come.

There’s a lot to do to get visible, to stay visible, and then to get the recces in and the hires secured. Can you do it all? We do have a service that is  DIY service, giving you the resources to lead your own path and run the show. We call it THE FIELD and it’s coming soon.

For now though, can we take the load off you? We’ll be your friendly face in an otherwise alien world. Let us worry about dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.
