Today marks an important milestone for Farm Locations. We’re rolling out something new—a service option that’s been a long time in the creating, and hopefully, will be welcome news for landowners interested in diversifying into film location work.
Since 2015, Farm Locations has been running as a full-service agency, working closely with a curated portfolio of farms and rural spots. Right now, we’ve got 215 locations listed on the website, with a target to broaden the nationwide presence and stop at 250 so that we can keep offering a genuinely personal service. But that number means we’ve had to make tough calls, turning away more landowners than we’d like, and it really doesn’t sit comfortably, leaving some landowners unsure on where to turn next.
The whole point of Farm Locations was to be a champion for Britain’s farms, finding them a spot in the film, TV and stills industry and opening doors to an extra income. And with so many farmers feeling the squeeze, it feels more important than ever to “open the gate” to everyone who wants a hand. But to do that, we have needed to try something new.
That’s where THE FIELD comes in. It’s a subscription service that lets us share our knowledge and experience more widely, creating a space for any landowner interested in being part of the film industry. THE FIELD is a growing place of resources, stories, opportunities, and a space for us to listen and keep adding useful tips and tools to help overcome the common hurdles.
It feels like the right time for this. Farmers and landowners have been facing one blow after another recently, and we want to do what we can to offer a bit of help and hope, and a way to keep these farms surviving (even thriving) through to the next generation.
Here’s to the next chapter for Farm Locations and to bringing a bit of joy—and a bit of extra support—to Britain’s family farms and rural communities. And yes, we’ll be raising a glass tonight to celebrate this new beginning.
